St. George Marathon

The St. George Marathon that is held every October in beautiful St. George Utah is a standard 26.2 mile marathon, and it starts at an elevation of 5,243 ft and ends in an elevation of 2,678 ft at Worthen Park. It was recently voted the most organized marathon in Runners Magazine. Each year around 7400 runners compete in this great marathon.

In October the weather in St. George is fairly cool and great for running. It’s around 38-44 degrees when you start the race at 6:45 am, and when you end 6 hours or so later at around one in the afternoon it’s 65-85 degrees. Every runner who participates receives a marathon long sleeve shirt, a full-Color marathon poster, a unique finisher medallion, a marathon certificate, bus transportation to start, post-race drinks and fruit, and a post-race Sunday spectrum results issue.

When preparing for a race like this or any other, they recommend a lot of training and timing, as you are asked to make it to the intersection of Snow Canyon Parkway and SR 18 within 6 hours. However there are a lot of benefits for going to the race and finishing. For those who finish there is a complimentary 15 minute massage from 9am-1:30 pm held in Worthen Park, and for those of you who like to have that boost of carbs before the race, there is a great pasta dinner held the night before in the Dixie Center; tickets are available.

Anyone can run in the St. George marathon, and if you don’t intend to run, come to beautiful St. George to watch the runners do their best.
